Train-Transfer-Sustain

The Train–Transfer–Sustain model is a learning and development approach that ensures what the learner gains through formal training is not only transferred into practical application but also sustained over time to support long-term competence development through performance support.

Train
This phase involves formal training, where new skills and knowledge are introduced to learners through courses, workshops, and other structured learning activities.

Transfer
This phase ensures that the acquired knowledge and skills are effectively applied in the learner’s daily work.

It includes workflow support, coaching, and tools that help employees put what they’ve learned into practice.

Sustain
This phase focuses on maintaining and reinforcing new skills over time.

It involves continuous support, feedback, and updates — for example, via a learning platform that provides access to bite-sized learning content, enabling employees to adapt to new demands and remain competent in their roles.
