SCORM = Sharable Courseware Object Reference Model.
SCORM is an e-learning standard originally developed by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative, which is part of the U.S. Department of Defense, and was introduced in 2000. SCORM was created to provide a standardized way to design and deliver e-learning content that could be used across different systems.
The advantage of SCORM is that it allows reporting and standardization. The disadvantage is that all content is stored in a single unit, making it inaccessible outside the e-learning course. This means it cannot be used as searchable performance support during day-to-day work.
