Onboarding

Onboarding is the process of integrating a new employee into the organisation, introducing them to its culture, systems, and daily responsibilities. A well-structured onboarding programme ensures that new hires are not only informed and engaged, but also supported in their well-being and long-term retention.

Effective onboarding begins with preboarding, taking place before the employee’s first day. This phase provides access to essential information about the company, its values, and practical details. During the initial weeks and months, onboarding should combine digital learning modules, mentoring schemes, and structured one-to-one conversations with managers and colleagues. The aim is to ensure that the employee gains a clear understanding of their role and how they contribute to the organisation’s goals.

Digital learning platforms play a key role in supporting onboarding by offering structured training programmes, automated checklists, and on-demand resources—ensuring consistency, scalability, and flexibility.

A strong onboarding experience enables new employees to contribute effectively from an early stage, creating value for both the individual and the business.

At Blendit Learning, we have developed the Onboarding Ladder, a framework that outlines four essential steps in the onboarding journey.
